Precision air strikes, such as that shown in the photo, have killed a large number of people in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Mali, Libya etc.
The Russians are now involved and have a reputation for similar bombing accuracy.
As President Obama says: “it will take time to eradicate a cancer like ISIS,”
The objective appears to be to deny the Muslims any cover:
It is then possible to drive the survivors into refugee camps. The West is only 12 years into the conflict in Iraq and 4-5 years into the conflict in Syria. Now that the war has become a matter of firing automated explosives at the Muslims it should be feasible to pay for bombing into the foreseeable future.
This remarkable "war" has been made possible by the Media. In previous wars it was possible to imagine the enemy being isolated in a particular Nation State and cordoned off, but in this war, no matter where the enemy is located it is portrayed as representing a threat to you and me. The Media refuses to dignify these Muslims, who are portrayed as inhuman fanatics, with any recognition of their political status.
In previous wars the UK media was capable of standing back and considering the humanity of the enemy but in this war it is portrayed as being a cancer to be eradicated. In this war the media point out that the refugees are fleeing ISIS, not the bombing.
The Media is run by people who imagine that the world should eventually be ordered by an infallible global government and that its enemies are best exterminated. ISIS is run by people who dream of an eventual, infallible, global caliphate whose enemies are best exterminated.
If we are going to have free movement of labour and goods on a global basis we cannot have radically different philosophies in the world. Most importantly we cannot have countries that believe that public life should conform to rules that are hostile to the free movement of labour and goods. The Media are doing a fantastic job ensuring that we all have a strong sense of ownership of other people's societies and so feel empowered to eradicate such cancers.
Make no mistake, by my standards ISIS are appalling, as appalling as the Internationalists.
Sadly it looks like the only way that the killing will stop is if one of the combatants wins. The West has stopped ISIS from winning in Syria but IS is a regional phenomenon and it is hard to see how it can be stopped everywhere.
